The Canon Pixma Wireless Printer is designed to be quick, compact and easy to use. The detachable 30-sheet paper tray has a 50cm-wide feeder for duplex printing and is easy to remove.
The front panel has a large LCD and two buttons: ‘Print’ to open up the printer, and ‘Cancel’ for instant termination. This helps you to find your way around as there is no display, but you can connect this wireless printer easily.
Using the two-line LCD, the buttons are extremely small so make it quite difficult to input a contact number. One disappointment is that there is no way to carry out batch printing from the front panel, although you can from the rear panel.
The extended paper tray allows you to print on sheets up to a meter wide, and there is an automatic duplex function that automatically alters to 100 per cent duplex as you remove each sheet.
There are 35MB of memory onboard, and the memory can be upgraded to a maximum of 500MB. Two-sided printing is also slow, taking 25 seconds on our test print jobs, with an average of 45 seconds from LED backlighting.
The large paper tray means you can print with A4 and A5 sheets in a single page with no problems. The Pixma Wireless Printer is a good basic printer with plenty of functionality, but it’s frustrating that there’s no auto duplex or spot color printing.

Step 1: Plug the printer into the USB port of a computer.

- Place the driver file in the same directory that you have Windows, and you’re ready to print. Select your printer from the list of printers, and click Print.
- When you go to your printer, you will see a blue Network icon. It means that the printer is online, and the wireless connection works.
- When you’re not printing, the blue icon will be green. This is because the printer is not printing yet. Try to print from your computer, but be patient.
- The printer can use either ethernet or Wireless network. It’s better to choose Wireless network to enjoy faster printing. Open a web browser, and access the IP address of your router by using “www.” prefix.
- In our case, the IP address is 192.168.1.130. Click the Network button on the bottom left of the browser window, and type the IP address of the printer into the address box. You’ll see “IPv4 Address: 192.168.1.130:2150”.
- By doing this, you will see the IP address of the printer.
- To print from the Internet, use the IP address 192.168.1.131:2150. If you don’t want to use Internet, but still want to use the printer, open the printer folder and right-click it. Then select “Save as network location” option, and set the IP address of your printer. You’ll see the IP address in the box. Click Save, and your printer will start to work on the network.
- If the printer is too far away from the router, your connection may not work well, so make sure that you select the printer you want to use.
Wireless devices have made it possible for users to access content anywhere, anytime, but there are still some limitations in wireless connectivity. When you want to connect a wireless printer to your network, you will need to set up a network.
That means that you will need an account with an authorized service provider (such as 3M Cloud Print) and a router that supports wireless network access.
